Garden Loggia
The Garden Loggia was a perfect example of initially playing it “too safe,” with a decision to paint the walls a soft cream color to blend with the mortar of the bricks, and also to make the area somewhat more casual. Though well-intended, when it was finished it was completely wrong, and very boring!
Overnight, an area that I had enjoyed having a drink or dinner became a place I rarely wanted to visit. After living with this for over a year, I finally made a decision to paint the walls a chalky white, so as to no longer visually fight with my handsome white fence and arbor adjacent to the space. I then added two handsome antique Asian jars that rest on a pair of art deco influenced brackets – originally designed for the living room –a fun and quietly spectacular room emerged. What emerged for me was the realization that Waverley Hill is not a house to play it “safe” with decisions. And most importantly: if you don’t like it, don’t live with it!
